Learn ImageX and DISM… best tool I’ve ever used for imaging/deployment!Īt one point, I was using ONE wim image to deploy to 7 different models of computers without using a driver catalog as previously mentioned (I hated the driver catalog, whoever was managing it before me messed it up bad). I do think that ultimately it is the way to go, it has more advantages and flexibility. However Im finding it extremely time consuming getting all the initial stuff together, certainly a much bigger project than throwing together an imaging solution. The advantage being that I can keep the software packages etc in the manager up to date, ensuring that when I setup or redo a machine its going to get the latest and greatest, and I will no longer need all the images for all different machine models. Over the last couple of weeks Ive been setting up a deployment management solution, not the windows one, but essentially the same thing, the OS gets installed automatically, the drivers added, and software individually. So its very common to go back to an image a year or so later, and find that all the software is out of date and spend hours updating everything. I used to do a similar setup to yourself with the cloning… Overall Its nice, quick and simple the major disadvantage to it as far as Im concerned is when an image becomes old, I have over 60 images and over 350 machines.

many of us still do it that way and it’s still faster than manual CD installs. If you don’t have the time to practice, then stick with what your doing. Once you have it down, you will probably prefer it. If you like to read and have spare time I would suggest reading the Microsoft documentation ( I found you a video version by Microsoft Windows previous versions documentation | Microsoft Learn ) on this and practice it on a few old computers. It only takes minutes but you do have to remove the drive from the computer. Personally, once I have done a sysprep, I use the Thermaltake BlacX Duet (even the name sound cool - yes I’m a geek) to duplicate the drive. One plus is that with Remote Installation Service (RIS), you can allow for any form of install including over the network from a blank drive (which I would assume Easus can also do with the aid of a boot CD). You need to periodically recreate the image. Once you create an image with the toolkit, your activation period starts. One disadvantage that I know of with the toolkit is that the OS activation period expires. I’m assuming that you are imaging XP as Microsoft now has the Automated Installation Kit (AIK) for windows 7 and 8. I have tried on Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bits and on Windows XP 32 bits.Sysprep is the main component of the toolkit. I have recently bought a BlacX Duet - ST0014U - Docking Station but I can't make it recognize my two Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 of 2TB each even on USB. Let's try to uninstall the (BlacX se docking station )device drivers completely from the Device Manager and re-install the device drivers in compatibility mode. UASP update.zip It enables USAP in usb 3.0 which makes a BIG difference in speed! I see that there are no BlacX se docking station drivers available for Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 on their website. There is a firmware upgrade on the Thermaltake website for the Thermaltake BlacX 5G ST0019U.
